On my trailers we are opening the rear door upward 90 degrees. Hinged at the top. Considering hydraulic Pistons or electric screw jacks.. Also am considering a torsion spring to assist.. Opinions from those smarter than me

Attach a sketch of how you plan to use the hyd cylinders or the electric actuators.

If you go UP then you would still need a ramp wouldn't you? I know your trailer drops down but is it enough that a Ferrari could get out the back without scraping? What about having the door fold or trifold up? Then you would not need as large of a mechanism... (???) These ideas are all free btw, so you get what you paid for :-).
The other consideration of having a door like that is the wind could catch it (?)

Since it's free advice....what about having the door split halfway up where the bottom drops down as a ramp and the top half hinges upward?
Which device would be faster and stronger electric screws or hydraulic?

There is only a 4 inch lip which we have a small flap that takes care of it. Am considering bi fold as well. Just like the ides of a longer covered area.. Richard I'm working on a drawing to upload

Marc, I am fascinated with this project and only have a shade tree engineering degree but as I was thinking about it one question I have would be about power availability. It seems that this setup would lend itself to being used frequently while unattached to the MH. If that is the case I would think battery draw to raise door would be an important consideration. Of course if you are planning for an on board generator that would be a non issue.
