Found a coach to buy, but….

The brake caliper was originally made by Knorr Bremse in Europe. Bendix bought them out. I think they are either Bendix SN7 or Bendix SB7 now. By the way, Prevost uses the same caliper, so if there is a Prevost center nearby, you can pick up a new assembly there.

Folks way more wise than me chiming in but my two cents are that if a truck repair shop can't source these basic parts I would never let them tie into a slide seal. Any mechanic should be able to see the part numbers on the old parts and cross reference them to current part numbers. I had drive axle done last year and parts guy at the repair shop sourced all of it. Newell had parts in stock for one side and one of the online wholesalers had the other.

I too would not book a flight until repairs are done and coach is 100% ready to go.

If I might interject a possibly rude statement (though NOT intended to be)- Gem930, why are you fixing a coach you don’t own??

I understand you want to buy it. But you do not own it. Fixing it is the seller’s problem, unless you’ve bought it “as is”. Since you’re not indicating you did, then don’t waste your energy.

Don’t send anything but a refundable deposit prior to it being completely ready for delivery. You’ll need all your energy then, assuming it all comes to fruition. The seller either wants to sell it or they don’t.

i had a nice chat on the phone with gem930. there are some unusual circumtances. he is a very savvy guy and very handy and will make a great addition to our guru gang.

he understands all that we are saying.

but....i am not speaking for him, just giving my thoughts after talking to him

Unfortunately this situation with shops is pretty common. There are very few shops that have the knowledge base to fix anything other than newer semi trucks and generally that's why many of them will just flat out refuse to work on RV's of any kind. Some will try and they are learning on your dime, its really unfortunate but just the way things seem to be. There are some good shops out there but they seem to be few and far between. I have this conversation with folks more often than not, they tried to get something fixed at shop XYZ and they did all this work and still did not fix the problem, oh and a big bill at the end to add insult to injury. I can tell you that I am in the Tampa area, and we have lots of big diesel shops, I do not have one that I can recommend someone take their RV to. Sorry this is not to scare anyone out there, but really to prepare you for what you may encounter trying to get work done. You really have to do your best to educate yourself and yes sometimes you have to be your own parts supplier.

i agree. and to be on newells service shop list doesnt take much. fortunately leo at all aboard america is the best in the west out of mesa.

It is what it is. Our new guru is trying to help the shop obtain the parts to fix it.

I realize you are not at the shop, but if you could provide some more pictures of the hub and the rotor we may be able to help. In addition measurements of the rotor diameter and thickness would be helpful.

I am going out on a limb here, the 2002 coaches have the Knorr Bremse calipers like the drive and the fronts. I have the KB on my front and had to replace the rotors. Here is a link to the rotor part number. This rotor dimension needs verification with the existing rotor to ensure it is correct.

Again, the part numbers in that post you want to pay attention to are the FRONT brakes. My coach had a different tag brake than yours.

Thanks so much for all the information, we still trying to figure out where we stand. Unfortunately, Holland bus company is kind of ghosting us. No, I am not paying for any of this. This is all on the seller. I’m only trying to get everything taken care of before the end of the month as my schedule from the beginning of October to the end of the year is pretty tight and I’m not interested in trying to get the coach out of Detroit in the dead of winter. I live in Idaho, and ended up just getting tickets that are refundable. I understand what everybody is saying about having the coach at a facility that can’t even source parts locally, but it was not my choice and at this point, the coach is stuck there with a burnt up and disassembled tag axle and and not much we can do. It seems like the owner is pretty upset with the facility at this point (understandable) and I’m not sure how much good it does for him to call.
I’m kind of at a loss, I would like to call and see what I can do to help get the parts to them, but because of the relationship they have with the owner, I am afraid of doing so.

Well, it looks like they have assured the owner that completing the coach in time will not be a problem….fingers crossed! Thanks for all the advice and information!

That’s very good to hear. Holland has been around for a very long time, so it’s disappointing to hear how they are possibly treating folks. There’s always 2 sides, so it's good to hear yours. Hopefully they’ll come through in the end and everybody ends up satisfied.
