Found a coach to buy, but….

Good morning gurus!
After lots of looking I found a nice 2002 coach to purchase.  I’m running into a minor problem I’m hoping the vast knowledge on this forum migh be able to answer.  The seller has the coach in an approved Newell facility in Michigan to take care of a few things.  The two most serious are drivers side salon slide seal replacement and what was initially a burning oil smell that turned into something more serious.  It turns out a tag brake hung up and over heated everything to the tune of having to replace all seals, bearings, caliper, pads, rotor, and plastic site glass.  The problem I’m running into is trying to get the repair facility to let us know how long it takes to get the parts. I’m trying to book airfare, which seems to go up exponentially every day and all we need is a call from them telling us whether they will have the parts before the end of the month when I plan to fly there.  They said normally, they can have the parts in a few days, but occasionally they will be back ordered for weeks. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to impress upon them how great it would be if they could just make a phone call and let me know.  Does anybody know if these parts are rare or hard to obtain? Ig the answer is no, I will take a chance and book airfare. FYI, they have the slide seal parts from Newell.

Those look like common truck parts. I live in the Indiana/Michigan area. There are many truck parts houses in this area. If the coach has ZF suspension it may be more difficult for them to source. If your coach is at the shop I think it is, they probably will not confirm until they actually have the parts in- hand. Feel free to PM me if I can help.

My advice. Dont book the flight until the repIr is complete. The potential for a delay is too great. Even if they have the parts, the shop mY run into a problem during the repair. You could easily spend way more in lodging and food than you would buying a last minute airfare.

i agree with richard. are you sure they know how to do slide seals? is it a flat floor seal or bed raised seal?

i have an 02 and doing the front salon seal is not for the faint hearted, i have done several. the 02 is more difficult to do a front salon seal than the late 90s. different ram hookups.

the truck stuff is just getting parts but it could take a while. hopefully not. the slide seal is a 1 day job at newell, a 2 day job when i do it and i have helped other shops by phone that had a tough time doing it...i fixed one that a shop did that really should not have done it. not trying to scare you, just making sure that they know what they are doing on the seal. very few places can do a newell slide seal.

Anybody have the part numbers for the tag caliper and brake chamber? Newell told me they had all the parts, except those and said they get them from O’Reillys auto parts. He gave me a part number for the chamber of 18224, but that is not working and told me he could only see the manufacturer “knorr” on the photo of the caliper the shop sent. I guess I neglected to ask him how he knew he didn’t have the caliper in stock if he didn’t know the part number for it??? Anyway….. help!

newell has lots of recommended service providers that are not experienced in doing slide seals.

if it is an experienced shop they should be able to source the brake parts easily. newell will be wayyyy more expensive than sourcing them locally. if you are the buyer the seller and shop should be finding the parts i would think.

the shop i have used normally had all the parts in stock because many of them are the same as used on prevosts of that vintage.

I agree completely! Unfortunately, the coach is literally stuck there! I feel like I’m doing their job trying to source parts!

the challenge is if you source them and they are wrong you will be stuck. if they cant find common brake parts i kinda question their experience level.

i will pm you my phone if you want to talk. i have had an 02 for 12 years.
