Duo Therm 901

So, are the 901's safe to use or not? Currently I'm real hesitant about 'firing' them up based on some reports I'm reading on the 'net.

But I understand about opinions and the the internet. Big Grin

There is a reason they don't make them... But that being said it depends on condition... problem is they are hard to inspect unless you can get it on the bench and look at the exchangers, burner cans etc... I had one worse it had to be lit with a match.. but worked well..
Make sure you have good carbon monoxide detector for sure... One area I found was the flue thru the wall ... the ceramic ring was broken and the hot stuff was direct on the plywood ... I have a Atwood in my 37` fifth wheel and with all this cold weather lately.. its doing fine.. It's a matter of what fits without a bunch of mods...

i had 3 of them in my 90. when i redid it i took them out, cleaned them, changed the control boards with ones from dinosaur, tuned them up and they worked like a champ.

Thanks, we've got the manual - just didn't want to throw good effort on a rabbit trail.

Jimmy, Tom - anybody Wink

Is there anything that fits w/o major mods? Not @ all afraid of major mods - just don't think I could bring myself to cut on the 'ole lady.

Come to the mini rally in Arkansas and we'll be glad to make the first cut! After that it's easy.

i looked as well. at least with my 90, it wasnt going to be possible without major mods. i didnt want to cut the side, which meant you were left with extra holes.

besides, mine worked really well after working on them.

Get a Digitial Inspection Camera from Harbor Freight (about $80 on sale) take a look for problems. Then turn one on n see what happens. Chances are they weren't used that much as most find the electric heaters keep the coach warm enough. Then follow Toms suggestion. Mod/replacement would be my last option if I didn't want to cut.
I ended up replacing all my electric heaters (there are post about them) and kept my original furnace.
