window leaks
#1

I ve looked at two used 96 coaches and both of them have water spots on the walls under the windows and the wallpaper was baggy and wrinkled.  I didn't feel any soft spots on floor and the windows looked good along seals.  The exception was that under the dinette window behind the interior facade the wood looked bad.  Are these leaks likely to be the windows, or from somewhere else. The seals on the windows appear good; if its the cause of the leak how is the best way to fix it.    As a side note how is the floor constructed in case i have damage.

The seal breaks loose over time. Some take the window out and reseal. Some run a bead of urethane seal t arounf the outside edge. The wall and the floor are 3/4 plywood. The plywood on the floor sits on a out six inches of structural foam.

Its not a hard job but some of the windows are very heavy so it will require help and scafelling, any of the coaches of that vintage its going to have a few leaks unless they have been resealed.

Is the window leaking around the frame or around the glass normally?

if you have a soft spot in floor over the drive axle is it more likely water from the duals or from window which doesn't look too bad.

I haven't dug through my 96 that deep but, I've got a queen bed on top of my rear axles. From my time underneath the coach i can see the foam is sort of torn up but, i cant imagine that Newell didn't put a metal plate just to avoid road debris getting into the coach from underneath it. If they didn't then a tire blowout could wreak havoc inside the coach. For this reason if you've got a "soft spot" above the drives id say its either from wear over time or the windows. If its the windows their would have been evidence of water intrusion long before.

backroadrunner do you have slides? If so the slide seal track is glued to the frame of the opening the adhesive gives way over time and water will go under the track and into the floor area. Also there is no way for water to drain that is another problem with rear slides I cut out a slot on the front and rear and resealed the seal track no more water. Check underneath the window on the wall press to see if its soft from rotting.

If your like Carl and no slides then what I explained has no bearing.

Thanks Jack. Now I have another task added to my STD List ($hit To Do).
Seriously this is a no-cost improvement - unless I go a little too far or Murphy steps in  Cool
