Any good ideas for removing generator slide cylinder I can get to the back nut and back hydraulic line but can't see how to get to the front hydraulic line

I have not removed a hwh cylinder for a gen slide. But if it is at all like the bedroom slide cylinder nestled in a closed tube, then the hose fitting you can’t reach slides out with the cylinder. Disconnect the other end of that hose.

It has been several years since any issues with the hydraulics associated with the generator slide so, my memory may be missing a few brain cells, but I believe both extend and retract terminate at the fixed end.

My lines rubbed on the clamp and after 12 years finally ruptured, at a Bristol NASCAR event.  Repairs, later, were made by pulling the whole slide out and replacing both lines.  I’m pretty sure both ends terminated on the cylinder at the same point.   Yours may be different!   

The rupture sprayed fluid inside the enclosure and I found it easier to remove the whole set in order to clean the mess.  The failure rendered the whole hydraulic system inoperable, no slide movement in or out!  Luckily, the local Bobcat dealer had #4 jic caps and plugs in stock.  Terminated at the pump/distribution block, the system was back up and running.

So when did they go from air to hydraulic or is it one of those no two Newells are alike?

Thanks for the good ideas do you know if the hwh cylinders are rebuildable I'm going to take pictures and post hoping it will help someone else

Oh yeah, since you are relative newcomer. I have the memory of a gnat. I found this posts and others by typing HWH AND cylinder AND rebuild into the search engine. The key is to put capital AND between the words you type in to narrow the search.
