Xantex Link 2000 Temperature Probe
#1

Does anyone know where the Xantrex Link 2000 battery temperature probe is located?  If not, how's does it know the battery temperature?

My battery temp sensors are mounted to the battery terminals.

That was they way my house solar system was setup.  I am not seeing that on the Newell.  Does your sensor's wire go back to the inverter?

When I had the Magnum inverter, there was a sensor on the battery that went back to the inverter via a telephone type cable

I crawled around in the bays and mine is MIA....there is not even a snipped wire on the inverter or anywhere in the battery comp.

I don't have any temp probs on any of my 8D batteries. Is this important to the battery life? If so, what temp should I be concerned about?

Here is a picture of my 4 year old AGM battery.....i had three bulged and two split like the one in the picture.  When I put them in (without a temp probe) I set the charge parameters on my (Xantrex) Link 2000 to AGM and the FUNCTION  "F14" OFF i.e. to the the "default" setting.  The default sets the voltages of the charge at the 70 degree voltage setting.  My battery compartment would easily reach 100 degrees in the garage.  Thus my charging voltages were routinely .3 volt too high.....reference the chart below.  With a temp sensor installed and FUNCTION "F14" turn ON it allows the temp sensor to adjust the charging voltages.  On the flip side too cold you can see the voltages would be too low to effectifly charge your batteries to full capacity.  Certainly would not hurt the situation any!

Here are the manuals to the inverter and Link 2000 for reference

Same for both of my inverters. I have a 2nd inverter for the 2nd SubZero refrigerator. I was concerned the two inverter/chargers would over charge or over current the batteries but they seem to be smart enough to let either one be the master to control charging.

What is interesting is that the temp sensor was on the house batteries in the engine bay but not on the ones that were in a compartment on the other side of the coach. The ones in the compartment boiled over and made an acid mess. I have long removed them and turned the compartment into a nice carpeted storage area. House batteries are Lithium now. If there had been a second sensor this may have added some warning to a failing or overcharging battery?

Wondering out load for a moment.... If you had two sensors, one on each bank, would the sensing be an average or would the highest temp battery bank be the one what the inverter adjusts the charging voltage?
