Help with Tie Rods
#1

I brought the coach to a local shop to get it aligned and to check the front end because the front passenger side tire was wearing on the outside edge quicker than the other tire.  After about a week of delays they told me they had aligned the front end and the wear was coming from bad tie rods… 1st question: will bad tie rods do that? 2nd question: do the tie rods have replaceable ends? 3rd where can I source the tie rods (or ends) if needed?  What is your assessment of their assessment please?
BTW while the coach was out I got some new shelving for the storage building and it made a massive difference in the space!

My answer is yes to the first two questions and I would bet there are many big truck parts suppliers that have them. I've worked on old Porsche's over they years and one of their early ideas to save weight was to go to aluminum everywhere they can to lighten the car for speed and the tie rods was no exception, aluminum and steel will not last long and they wear quickly not saying Newells have aluminum tie rods, just an example that tire wear, drivability, and bump steer are all indications of loose tie rods. Its not that easy to move them around on a small car I can't imagine how they jerk them around on a bus like ours.

Nice garage space, we are discussing building one for our coach after seeing Tom's garage I fell in lust.

Contact Newell.  I bought new tie rods complete with ends.  They are sourcing them from Germany I believe.  Very reasonable, cheaper than sourcing the ends only.

Thanks for this, I am suspecting these may be an issue on my new to me '98 #490.
Are those part numbers Newell part numbers or Dana part numbers?

Gotcha, further research on other threads show these are available from Hendersons now as a revised and supposedly tighter than the originals.
