There is a box that goes between the OBDII port and the USB port on my laptop. That box changes or translates the DDEC signals into usable data for the Silverleaf program to use.
The box is only as big as a transformer for powering a laptop.

Might check for loose connections at the wires to the Newell diagnostic port, wires to the control box discussed earlier and the connection between the control box and the usb connector.
