Propane shut off solenoid
#1

Does anyone know where I can get one? I'd like to replace mine as it is aged and discolored and probably on its last legs. I searched online but not much luck. 12v coil with I believe 3/8 NPT. What activates it to shut off?

Amazon has a few to choose from, most are normally closed, power to open. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=propane+solen...doa-p_1_22

Thanks Jon. I was noticing they are saying not to use them for longer than 8 hours or the valve will have a short life. Do you have any idea how these valves get operated in our coaches? Where do they get powered/switched from? Or should I say, what causes the valve to lose power in the event of some failure? I would like to put a switch on the console over the microwave so I can turn off the propane when not in use. My existing valve is discolored and super hot from being energized all the time.

as i recall from my 90 and from helping michael day with his 92 on this, the propane shutoff valve is energized by the propane leak detector that on his and on my 90 was under the couch on the drivers side. i dont believe anything else shut it off.

Look into a latching type solenoid valve. They require little or no current to hold open as they couple the power with magnets. Made for this type application. Here is a link to one example. https://www.solenoidsolutionsinc.com/spe...ow-energy/

A latching solenoid is an excellent solution. You just need to add a switch that is open circuit at the center position and momentarily reverses the voltage to the solenoid for the open or closed positions. Petfect!!

I did have one made by a company that specializes in these. It's been a while and I do not have the paperwork. My coach did not have the propane leak detector under the couch by the furnace, so I had this new constant duty valve made and added a manual shut off switch next to the row of lighting switches as you exit the coach. It is lit to remind you it is on. We generally shut off the solenoid when we leave unless the heat is running.
