Different Approach
#1

Here is an alternative to "how we have always done it".  Instead of wiring my new tow vehicle for lights, I have chosen to use a wireless system.

The system is designed to attach to the roof with 100 lb magnets.  I wanted the lights mounted closer to where the vehicle taillights are.  I am utilizing a bike rack that I added a flat crossbar to mount the light to.  This allows me to use the bike rack tilt back feature when I want to open the rear cargo door.

The lighting system comes with a transmitter that plugs into the light port at the rear of your coach.  The transmitter is said to be able to communicate with the light up to a thousand feet.   The 22" led light shows taillights, stop lights, turn signals left & right as well as hazard lights.  The lights are leds that are quite bright.  You also get a 12V cigarette style battery charger to recharge the battery.

I have spoken with two people using the system and both reported no shortcomings or problems.  Both said they will never wire up a tow vehicle again.

I use the same method.  Will never wire another one.  You can do a light check by just parking the toad in front of the coach.   Sit in the drivers seat and run the lights.

Absolutely the best!
We are within 5 miles of these folks.
Bought a coach that
Includes one of their light bars,it
Had a simple problem, took it to them they updated it and slapped me on the back and said “enjoy, and come back if you need anything “
No charge and a great smile!
Now how many times do you get that kind of customer service in today s world?

I am using the $130 Harbor Freight twin light unit. So far 500 miles and no issues.

In theory, this is an ideal solution. My problem is with my paranoia, what if someone steals my magnetic light bar. I did buy the cheap $35 HF magnetic LED towing lights that I'll carry as backup, but I wired my toad for towing.

I use the Tow Mate too. IT works great! I attached a nylon strap to the unit which i tie inside the car. So if someone wants to grab and go away with it they will have to cut the webbing. not fool proof but may slow them down.
