Introduction Steve and Janet
#1

Hi everyone;  we have been enjoying our 36 ft Holiday Rambler   f or 3 years now and have decided to go full time. We have been looking  at early nineties 42 footers,  Can anyone tell me when the transition to Wide 102 bodies came about and what models etc to look for.  And which to steer clear of if any.  Thanks very much Steve and Janet

Welcome Steve and Janet.

If you are looking at the early 1990's, they would all be wide bodies. Newell began making wide body coaches in 1986 but some narrow body coaches were built in 1986 also. There were the Classic style coaches that were built through 1989. 1990 began the Series 2000 Newells, this body style remained without major modification until model year 2000 when the front cap was changed. The next model change did not occur until early in the 2005 model year when the 2000i was introduced. I could go on but if you are interested in the 1990's that is hopefully enough.

Each Newell is unique. As an extreme example, there was one Classic style Newell built after 1989. #337 was built per a customers request in 1993 and is the only Classic style coach built in the 1990's. Available lengths varied through the years by 1980, 36' was the shortest Newell, In 1986 the longest Newell was 40'. In 1989, one 42' Classic was built this was the ONLY Classic built that was over 40'. In 1992, Newell built its first 45' coach. Slides were introduced with one coach in 1996. In 1999, Newell built the last coach without a slide other than one corporate coach in 2010.

Give us some information about what you are looking for and we will try to help. You might check the Newell History forum to get some feel for what has transpired over the years.

Welcome Steve and Janet, I was going to chime in, but my knowledge of Newell history is sorely lacking compared to Michael Day's. I will add that 1994 was the first year Detroit Diesel series 60s became available.
