OK, I hate the bed in the Newell we are looking at - it is the round cross island bed with the uber cool rear bath that my wife loves.
If we just extend the edges of the bed to support our Queen Select Comfort bed will we have enough room to walk around the bed?  
I will have to look at the pictures again - my wife swears that there are odd corner cabinets that will be in the way if we do that.
I would love to get a Murphy bed installed with our Select Comfort mattress - we both tried the foam mattress (Temperpedic) and did not like them at all (cost us $600 to send it back)...  Is this feasible?

The flared round bed was the most common design during the 1995-1998 time period. After that, the corners were still typically rounded but not as extreme as during the earlier period. The specific floorplan would dictate whether a standard queen mattress would work or not. Certainly a standard mattress makes it more difficult to walk around the bed than the rounds corners.

Adrian, your bed is the same as in my 99.  I'm fairly tall and have no problem with it. We did put a quilted liner on it.  However Newell can do most anything you want for a price.  The rounded end does make it a lot easier to get around it especially if the slide is closed.  When travelling and stopping for the night I do not open the slides. When one buys a used coach one has to sacrifice somethings to get what is more important.  I have found there is no prefect coach.

Thanks Chappell (again) - any idea how long the bed it at the center/apex (longest point)? If it is over 80" then the queen would fit better, if not then I might have a problem fitting it. I am liking the idea of the Murphy bed more and more especially since I saw the theatre bedroom... I may have to find a couple of fold up theatre chairs to put on the opposite wall and give up walking around the bed when it's down... floor space is highly overrated... lol...

Don't know but will measure mine tomorrow and let you know. There are not two Newells alike so could be a little different, but probably not in bed size.

I think 2004 is the first year of Newell building a coach with a Murphy bed. #701 is the first one I am aware of.

701 is mine with the Murphy.. And I love it..love being able to walk all the way to the rear bath with nothing in your way with slides in is awesome..I've been told a Murphy bed conversion is 5-10k. But I would caution trying to do the home theatre Murphy on a double slide.. I don't think there is enough room with just one slide to have bed down and couch or chairs across from it

Thanks, I was thinking of using old style fold up theatre chairs or similar so there is enough room. Once I actually buy the coach and get the murphy bed installed then I will worry about the chairs; chicken - egg, cart - horse...
