California health officials are investigating the second case of the plague in less than a month. Yosemite's Crane Flat Campground, closed for 4 days, was reopened last week after treating it with insecticide.
Tuolumne Meadows Campground is closed for this week for insecticide treatment after two squirrels died of the plague.
The plague has been confirmed in wild rodents in those two campgrounds.
The Health Department recommends hikers wear long pants and use bug repellent for fleas, avoid camping near rodent burrows and not feeding small rodents including squirrels.
