Alternator/Voltage regulator testing
#1

If you have a system with an engine charging system with an external voltage regulator this document will help you identify what is causing your problem.  Simple testing if you are familiar with the use of common volt meters.

Thanks Steve, I have used that very document to troubleshoot an alternator.

However, a caution to all . Newell did not wire the alternator harness like the way the schematic would indicate on the two coaches I have had my hands on. I don't know exactly what they did. It didn't interfere with the troubleshooting, but in my case replacing the voltage regulator led to some wiring surprises, such as wires that led into the harness and simply weren't ever connected.
