Short Newells?

What are the shorter Newells with 4 stroke diesel motors in lengths and years?

We previously owned a 35' 1983 Bluebird Wanderlodge FC35, and now we fulltime in a 1994 Bluebird BMC 37'.

We "might" change coaches in 1-4 years, with Bluebird, Foretravel, and Newell possible contenders.

We want max length of 41', and 38' max is preferable, and only a 4 stroke engine with 6 speed or better transmission. No slide or 1 slide is our preference.

Other "wish to haves" are dual pane windows, screen door, excellent capacity on fresh water and sewage tanks, window awnings, and a power main awning.

First look into Newell, trying to figure out years and lengths. Is there a link to show me years with models/lengths?

My old 73 was 33' with a 4 stroke normally aspirated (no turbo) Cat 1160 and 4spd Allison. Most of the older 4 stroke Newells were either Cat 1160s or 3208s (V8s) or Cummins 555s or 903s ( V8s) with 4 or 5spd Allisons. I believe there was series 60 Detroits available from the factory in 94, but pretty much standard in 95. If you’re looking for a I6 4 stroke with a 6 speed transmission Newell under 41 foot it’s going to be a re-power.

The Series 60 Detroit was introduced during the 1994 model year. I believe #363 was the first with a Series 60, however, there were still 8V92's being put into some of the 1995 models. By then, most of the Newells were 45' so you are looking for a rare breed. Since there were so few, I will try to list them.

#428 is a 1996, with the Series 60 and Allison that is 38' 2" and has no slides. Others with the Series 60 and Allison include: #487, a 41' 0" 1998; #496, a 1998 39' 3" but I believe it was shipped out of the U.S.

If you could live with more than 1 slide: #511, 6" over your limit at 41' 6", is a 1999 but has two slides and was recently listed on RVTrader; #526, a 1999 2 slide at 41' 6" as is #560, a 2000; #616, a 2002 with 2 slides is 40' 6" and #652 is a 2003, 3 slide 40' 6" that was listed as of a couple of months ago on Bus-stuff and at Marathon.

There have been a handful of Newells built since 2004 that are 41' or less: #724 a 2005 40' 6", #748, a 3 slide 2005 40' 6" with a Cat C-13 and Allison, #1471, a 40' 6" two slide 2013 with the Cummins ISX 600 HP and the Allison 6.

#1505 at 39' 6" is a 2015 and, to my knowledge, the shortest Newell ever built with a slide. I am not sure what transmission installed in #1505.

Thanks for the info. Not too many shorter Newells by the sounds of it. #428 must be in the same campground we are in Summerdale AL. I know he mentioned these forums and has a Newell 38' with a Detroit 60. We are moving on this morning so probably won't get to ask them.

That was one of the reasons i jumped on 366, i reallly enjoyed my 36 ft. 1981 classic
Maneuvering with my 28 ft race trailer was so easy.
I have driven my brothers 45 ft. coach pulling a trailer you really had to pay attention to what you are doing.
When driving mine it is as comfortable as pulling the trailer with my truck.

I prefer 36-38ft as well, they're easy to maneuver. Really like the newer I6 engines and the allison 6spd. I also prefer the look of the classic Newells

Paul is right, most of the shorter Newells were pre-1994 and most of those had 2-stroke Detroits in them until you get back to the 1986 and earlier models.

Love our "short" coach at 38' we can understate the size to fit into a smaller site at State Parks. I have even taken the Pacific Coast Hwy North to Monterey. Even Better with our 8' width it is easier when the K-Rails are set at 9'!
Still happy with our little V-6 (6V92 Detroit) getting around 10 MPG.
