Aqua-Hot tear out and rebuild
#11

Glad to see you put shut off valves on the in and out coolant from the engine I put mine up stream a bit because I use a different diesel heater but it ties into those in and out lines.

Today i rewired the Aqua-Hot. I ran all new wires for everything except the burner controls.

I followed along and ran all the right colors from the manual. That's in the binder you see in the last picture.

I've got to fix the wires coming from the coach to the unit and then we're ready to reinstall the unit and fill things up for a test.
I've downloaded and printed as many of the system manuals as i could locate for my coach and created the binder with them in it. If anyone needs a manual... i may have it now.

You are doing quite the job. Very impressive.

You may find those wires to the burner are brittle after all these years of heat exposure. And you will likely find the wires to the motor are undersized in my opinion.

The ones that burned i replace with larger ones, if i had the tool to punch my own harness i would have remade them both without a splice. Im waiting on 12 Gallons of coolant concentrate as it was cheaper to get on Amazon than locally, by about 150 bucks.

Good job Carl, were you able to save the square thermal breaker thats nested amongst the thermal switch's? That little piece is $450 from Newell and as of now thats the only place that has them, I know that because one of the participants here at the rally had his go out while we are here.

The 220VAC thermostat was burned up really bad and the red mechanical reset was melted into it. I decided not to go back with 220 and just use a single 120 element. I bought the thermostats to retro fit it into a single element and eliminate the 220 altogether. Run the A/C wiring through the high limit then through the low limit then to the element. As long as i read the wiring diagram correctly that should work perfectly.
After my post yesterday i went out and replaced the wire harness in the coach with a newly made (by my 17 year old daughter who is taking electrician classes at a vo-tech school) harness.

The plan for today is to tone the new wires out and make a list as to what goes where so i can finish wiring the Aqua-Hot.
This is the toner i have. https://www.kleintools.com/catalog/tone-...-generator
It works on all types of wires both A/C and D/C as well as telecom  works for everything as long as the wire is not powered

Wow your making progress by the minute. Carl can you see where a person might be able to change the bung on AH heater element and use a standard hot water heater element with built in reset button and adjustable temp?

Jack, the water heater elements available locally have plastic bases. The AH element has a ceramic base as the tank temp reaches 180 to 190 degrees F.

Ok thats good info Rudy thanks.

So the bung for the AH is the same size as house water heater element.
