I replaced my rope last year and it helped my leak, but did not fix it.  My real problem was that I high centered my exhaust on some heavy gravel and pinched the pipe a bit at one joint and ripped a little bit is the muffler at one of the seams.

Went to a muffler shop ane had them make me all the pieces and I’m all good now.

The worst part of changing the rope is you need a really small person to get in there.
