Mid entry door steps to not extend?

Flipping the switch (labeled “step”) while the door is closed and the step is retracted prevents the step from deploying. I realize my coach is much older. Hopefully yours has a similar set up or a guru with a coach more contemporary to yours will chime in.

I've never toggled that switch while the door is closed and step retracted. I'll give that a try when I get back to it in a couple of days.
I wonder how the ignition on may affect operation when the switch is set in the sequence you provided.
