Greetings from San Antonio Texas:

Classification "A Newell Wanna-Be"

Rose & I have been camping in a class A for about 10+ years; prior to that our camping style as many different shades.

We've experienced three different types of class A's.

1st was a well used 1989 30 ft Fleetwood Southwind with a 454 Chevolet; great engine in a Corvette not so much in a 14,000lb MH.

2nd 1964 35ft coverted GMC 4106: this is where I got the bug for the bus frame. Loved the DD 8V72 but didn't care for the oil all over the toad.

3rd & current MH is a 2005 40ft Fleetwood Discovery with a 330 Cat; this is where affortablity for slides in a plastice MH won over no slide bus.

We use our MH mainly for rallies and a once a year longer trip.

We started to look at bus type MH (Blue Bird & Newell) and bus conversions (Prevost, MCI, Eagle, etc).

As of this writting we're leaning toward a Newell for many different reasons.

I enjoyed reading the various posts and I am gaaining some great insight into the Newell line

Merry Christmas to all

Brad & Rose,
A big GURU welcome to the forum. Lots of helpful people with lots of experience with Newells of all years. I too owned many other brands before purchasing a Newell in 2010. Best motorhome decision I ever made. The very best way to evaluate all of the different brands that you are considering is to look at as many as you can first hand. A trip to Miami, OK would be well worth the fuel bill as you could look at at least twenty Newells in one place. The factory tour will answer many questions. There is no pressure to buy. Newell feels their product sells its self. Although Newells have similarities between them, each one is custom built for the original owner so no two are exactly alike. Big bonus is that Newell is still in business and the 24/7 service support is worth the cost of the coach. Shopping for our Newell was the most fun we had, but owning one is better. Good luck in your search.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.........................................

Brad and Rose,
Welcome to the club. I owned a 07 Discovery for five years and now own 99 Newell. My 99 Newell is so much more coach than the Discovery in many ways. I want try to name them all, but the power, stability and ease of driving is so much better. It drives more like car than a truck. And being that Newell builds the coach from ground up means a lot to me. Being that I owned a Discovery and from Texas also, I feel I should know you. Did you belong to the Discovery Club? Chappell

Yes, I have the 1981 36 ft. And the 1994 38 ft. . After some interior work and a little paint I am going to sell the 1981. After driving my brothers 45 ft. Pulling a 28 ft. enclosed trailer I had decided that I wanted a shorter coach.
When the 1994 38 ft. came up on eBay it was exactly what I was looking for and at a very good price. I have already put about 5,000 trouble free miles on it since I got it.
After buying the bus it died about 150 miles from home. After some roadside diagnostic, I got lucky and figured that the circuit breakers to the ddec were not supplying full voltage, I bypassed them with 20 amp fuses and have not had a problem since. Paul

Had that happen on my '93, those breakers do wear out.
