Ok. Looks like the only help will come via Newell. Cambri, bless her soul, searched around and found a company that will remanufacture the exact model pump and ship it overnight. I opted to send it to Newell and have them come here to install it because they know about the splined bearing that needs to be replaced with it as well. And if they do it, there is a warrenty.
No hydraulic repair shop will touch this unless they can find parts for it. They are scared by the number, since its unique. They also don't take the hillbilly aproach (like I would) and fix the shaft by welding and re-shaping the welded area to be like the original splines. Nobody fixes things anymore......

When I said the only help, I meant the only paid professional services such as rebuilding, sourcing, etc. Just to be clear.....You guys.....and this forum are great and make it reasonable to own one of these without having my own personal traveling garage staff (or psychiatrist, as my wife says).....

Hi,
This has happened twice to #1218 it was the drive gear in the auxiliary case, this gear drives both the fuel pump and the power steering pump, it wears off the internal splines of the gear and the pump, the Cat gear is softer than the Eaton pump! a new pump may work for a while but it will wear the pump splines off very quickly. a replacement gear was available at Caterpillar Belgium and was quite easy to fit, you can also replace the shaft it's an Eaton Vicars pump and spare shafts are available in Italy!!
The biggest worry is that all the metal fragments have gone into your engine oil!! I took my sump off and cleaned it, quite a lot of fine metal in the sump.

Wow!!! Thanks Ian!! So a little more work. Do you bave any part numbers for the shaft and the bearing?
My fuel pump is working, but who knows how long, based on this. What is a complete list of the items you had replaced? Thanks for helping us all.....

Hi Bob,
I did this myself.
Drain/change the engine oil ASAP and order a couple of Genuine Cat oil filters and sump gasket.
The drive gear has a part number that includes the bearing, sorry I'm currently in Belgium and all the paper work is at home.
One of the hoses that goes to the pump has a massive union nut, and it is very tight! plus when you remove it you need a very large clean container to catch the power steering fluid, 25/30 litres = 5/6 US gal?
The replacement pump should come with a gasket, remove the pipes, remove the pump, remove the fuel transfer pump, remove the pump mounting to aux case mounting assemble, remove the gear, no timing issues, refit, whilst you have the power steering fluid out replace the hydraulic filter, mine is located in between the chassis frame and engine.
The gear and bearing came in a Cat box as an assembly (made in India!) the pump shaft is available if you are unable to locate a pump, I now carry a spare new shaft!
Regards
Ian

Which Cat is this occurring in/on?
I’ve searched everybody’s posts (globally) and haven’t found which engine you have in #1261 or #1218.
I’m assuming it’s the C-15, but I’d like to confirm.
Thanks.

Its a C15. I think Newell started using that engine sometime in the 2006 year until either 2010 or early 2011.

Hi Bob,
Yes a C15 MXS not a C-15 they are different, yes not an uncommon event though, I remember taking my gear out of the engine and trying to source the Web via the number on the gear, but when they put the bearing on it and put it in a box the part number changes.
6I-4575 6I4575 is the gear/shaft with splines but no bearing

Newell build a few 2005's with the C13 and then with the C15 mixed in primarily Series 60 Detroits. Cats became the standard engine in 2006 after coach #761. The Cummins ISX started showing up occasionally 2010 becoming the most used engine in Newells by #1405. The last two coaches built with a C15 were #1414 and #1429.
