On a recent trip my engine fan failed to come on as needed
I disconnected the control and fan came up to speed
Guess I need to replace the control unit. As my brain remembers
Someone posted a thread about this problem...but I can’t find.
Info needed ... where did they find the part...

Hang on, the common symptom of a failed control valve is the fan runs on high all the time. The default mode is high. Unplugging the connector simulates the default mode. Based on what you said, it does not appear you have a control problem.
Do you mind providing details on how did you know the fan did not come on as needed? Overheating? Observed fan not turning?
I am just trying to match what you described against the unplugged fan on behavior.

OOk whole story
Dash temp gauge climbed to near 225
Silver Leaf said 182/185
I stopped and checked engine area
The fan was NOT running. I unplugged the control
The dash gauge dropped back to 180 and Silver Leaf
Read about 170
Oil temp fell about 10 degrees

Trust silverleaf not the dash gauge. They are notoriously inaccurate. Check grounds on gauge first. Unplugging the fan will cause the engine to run cool. It will also decrease your mileage almost a mpg.
