I would appreciate anyone else with an 8V92 to chime in with information on model year, last three digits of VIN and whether the original engine was mechanical, DDEC (also called DDEC I), DDEC II or DDEC III. With enough data, maybe we can try to piece together a basic Newell 8V92 chronology. Right now we know:
1995 #376 8V92 DDEC ? (likely last Newell built with an 8V92)
1993 #337 8V92 DDEC III
1992 #289 8V92 DDEC II
1992 #283 8V92 DDEC II
1992 #281 8V92 DDEC II
1990 #236 8V92 DDEC II
1989 #191 8V92 DDEC II
1988 #179 8V92 Mechanical
1987 #132 8V92 Mechanical
1987 #129 8V92 Mechanical
1986 # 86 8V92 Mechanical
1984 Newell introduced the 8V92 in their coaches although a number of Newells were still fitted with 6V92's into 1985 and #103 in 1986 had a Cummins 903 and #130 in 1987 had a 6V92.

For those who don't know, #236 was 38' 0" and was the only 1990 less than 40'.

Glad to see this list keep growing.
Thanks for keeping tabs on it Michael, I'll be interested to see the larger results.
Interesting that a 1988 had the MUI, while an 1989 already had DDEC-II.

I'm wondering if there is a list of coach numbers or dates that used a particular engine version. Specifically, what years did Newell use the DD 8V92 MUI, DDECI, DDECII, DDECIII, etc. I believe 1984 was the first year Newell used the 8V92, and 1994 the 60 series engine saw it's debut, but I could be off. Anybody got the numbers?
Thanks,
Rob Murdock
My 1987 #146 has what I believe is DDEC1 It probably had the latest and best available because it was built for the Newell Company owner . I still have not found a terminal to hook up a computer scan ? Don

Don the connector should be under or behind the dash near the steering column. That is where it is on most Newells. It may just be a loose 12 pin rectangular connector rather than being attached to anything. I know there were mechanical 8V92's installed even a year after yours. Does yours have the yellow Check Engine Light and the Red Stop Engine Light on the dash? The DDEC I had separate EDU and ECM units. DDEC II combines the EDU and ECM into one box.
For anyone interested, there is a copy of the DDEC I troubleshoot guide

You all probably know this already but just in case: Engines with DDECII have a "B" in the 6th position of the model # and engines with DDECIII have a "K" in the 6th position.
