Newell Coach Skin Rivet Inspection
#1

Greetings Gurus:
Richard Entrekin and Tom McCloud reached out to us with a question about some instances of rivets shearing between the slides on some coaches. As we looked into it, we decided that conducting a bi-annual inspection is a good practice to add to your list of maintenance procedures. Please see the attached letter, and related inspection process. As the letter indicates, should your inspection reveal the need for a repair, please contact Newell for support.

We were at Newell last week for service and Mike informed me of the rivet inspection. Several rivets were replaced and Mike did a thorough description of the process and what it would correct.  Mike has ALWAYS done an excellent job for us and we are very grateful for his knowledge and skills.

Had the rivet inspection done--no loose or missing rivets.

Are the susceptible rivets only on the driver side between slide 1 and 2, or should we be checking the curb side as well? (I know it just says the former, but it like the design would be the same on the other side.)

You should be checking any side that has slides.

I spoke with Newell yesterday, and they said it is only necessary to check the driver side (between slides 1 and 2). They said it happens frequently on that side, but not on the curb side. Interesting...

Hi guys, I just got done doing this repair at my shop on coach 719 all of the rivits were sheared off on both side of the coach. The coach had also flexed to the point of major waves and warpage in the upper aft corners of the front 2 slide rooms. Check both sides of your motorhomes.
