I have a 1989 Newell and need to install a brake controller in the coach.
I have never pulled a trailer with this coach but will be doing so on my next trip.
This coach has a 7 post terminal (round male) at the rear of the coach but does not have power to this unit as near as I can tell.
I will need to change the rear terminal to the flat blade spade type.
My immediate problem is to locate the wiring which I presume will be under the dash.
Any input will be appreciated.

Dick,
A better place to access the wiring is in the rear. Look in the stainless box on the passenger side and you will find relays for the brake, lights, and turn signals.

In the cabinet @richard refers to , is a group of wires that run to the front. there are spares in this bundle, pick one for the brake activation lead. connect this wire to your controller's brake output. The power for the controller should be fused (high enough to protect the wire and above the current requirement of the brakes). There is a ample power up front for your controller.
The lead you select should be as large as possible to compensate for voltage drop. You may want to parallel two wires for added copper size.
Locate the air brake pressure switch, use this for the activation lead to your controller. Make sure this lead goes plus 12 when the brakes are pressed.
I am assuming the controller is using an electrical signal rather than air pressure to activate.

They make trailer plugs that have both connections. This picture is similar to what I have on my coach.

They also make adapters to plug into the 7 pin round receptacle to convert it to 4 pin blade. Here is one

Wow guys - lots to look at - Thank you. I will investigate further over the weekend.
I am aware of the metal box at the passenger rear but would not have thought about any wiring in it.
My round plug at the rear of the coach has a heavy set of wires going towards the front of the coach and I am hoping to find the
other end of that wiring under the dash and then install my brake controller.

hello dick. Installed mine about three years ago. There should be some 16 or 18 guage wires in the stainless steel box passenger side in the engine compartment leading threw to the fuse panel in front of the co-pilots seat. Mike
