day 1 of floor being done.

he spent the door grinding the floor.  he had a humongo floor grinder with 200 lbs of weights on it.  he used 3 different grits.  took him all day.

tomorrow is fixing the divets and cracks and more cleaning.

looks great so far.

place looks bigger with nothing in it.

Your realize that now if you change coaches, you will have to redo the floor to match the paint on the new coach.

Looks great Tom!

Nice touch running up the sidewall for a couple of inches, but you knew that already from your cleanroom days.

thanks.. i went up 6" on the stem.

i have to say it looks even better than i expected.
so.....the rest of the story.

a very reputable company is doing the floor. he has been doing it for 30 years. i calculated the sq inches of coverage area, then we got quite a number of samples of paint including the final color which was a custom blend for the floor. then we got samples of a number of the vinyl chips and we mixed different percentages of the colors and spread them on our paint sample that was done on a piece of cardboard.

we did that over and over again till we got the mixture and percentages of the different colors of chips.

then we weighed the chips in grams, calculated the sq ft of the paint sample, to get the exact grams of chips of each color per sq ft of floor.

we then extrapolated that to the entire floor to figure out how many lbs of each color of chip for the floor guy to get.

he had to buy 90 lbs of the chips (they come in 10lb bags). then darlene and i mixed them in a 55 gallon barrel with the formula to the nearest 1/10 of an oz. those chips are really expensive. about ten bucks a pound.

carmen (the floor guy) said he had never had any one do this extreme. he said usually people just tell him they want some of that color and some of that and he just does it.

then we showed him samples of the exact density of chip spreading on the floor. he never had clients like darlene and i. ha

to our (darlene and i) credit, we calculated 47lbs of chips for the main floor and we used 46.2 lbs and were almost as close for the mancave.

and thats the rest of the story.
