I was looking at some paper work the other day and found the bill for my first and only oil change ,so far . I was charged for 36 litres of oil , the oil pan doesn't look that big ! Its an 8v92 ?

Yep, that is about right for an 8V92.

for the two stroke Detroit engines I've found that it takes about a gallon per cylinder including filling the filter. That has been true for both my 6V92 and my 8V92.

6V92 here.....Just had my oil changed in January and it took 7 gallons (1 gallon per cylinder and 1 gallon for the filter?).

Also just had an oil and filter change at Newell (DELVAC ELITE MINERAL BLEND) and it took 36 quarts for DDEC60. Marc, why 40?

Clarke: I have no idea how yours takes 7, all I can report is what mine took. It is really weird that they could be that different because it's all in the engine. The oil doesn't go anywhere else. The only thing I can think of is that our oil pans are different, or the dipsticks are set differently. Interesting.

Clarke has a 6V92 rather than an 8V92 so the oil pan is smaller. A 2 gallon difference between a 6V92 and an 8V92 seems about right.
