When I turn off the generator and I am attached to shore power I lose all power for probably 30 secs to a minute then the shore power kicks in.. I know there is shore power before then because the light on the dash lights up.. Is this normal? I just noticed this happening in the last week.

I suspect you have a power management control system that is delaying power initiation to prevent surges.

Depending on what power management system you have the delay might be adjustable. On my (not Newell installed) Progressive you can have a delay or not. I think it is mainly to protect the air conditioners.

I have no delay, but do always turn off the a/c's before any switchover.

Always good to turn everything off that is running on alternating current before switching from one power source to another.

On my 93 coach while it was on the sales lot at MOT someone switched the generator on while on shore power with a/c running and it blew up the transfer switch along with the surge protector. So the a/c's are not the only vulnerable part. Any significant 120v load is best shut off before switching.
