The model number an 8 digit number, typically listed on the sticker on the valve cover and on the block. For Newell 8V92's the first four digits of the Model Number will likely be 8087.
3, 4, 7 or 8 in the 6th position of the model number would be a mechanical engine. A DDEC I would have an "A" in the 6th position of the model number. As Dave indicated, a "B" in the 6th position would be DDEC II and a "K" would be a DDEC III.

3 is turbocharged
4 is aftercooled
7 is the Turbo Torque engine
8 is the Aftercooled Turbo Torque
