Drive axle slotted nut wrench needed

Hello,

Figure I would take a shot in the dark!  I have a ZF differential and the rotors are shot on the drive axle.  I have two new rotors and brake pads, but to get the hub off requires a specific nut wrench from ZF.  It is part number 5870401146.  The crack in my rotor makes it a bit scary to consider driving to Newell to have them do the work.  There is a mechanic in Phoenix, AZ that has replaced those rotors on a Newell before, but that one was a different year and different axle so unfortunately he doesn't have the tool but is more than capable to do the work, just needs the slotted nut wrench.

Just checking to see if anyone has one for sale or that is willing to rent?

I know nothing about this site, but they show it in stock and less than anybody else I saw:

It also looks like it is an MCI 20-02-0025, used on later buses. You might try one of the coach companies there in Phoenix.

WW Williams in Phoenix may have that tool, they do a LOT of work on busses. Or, see if the folks at Newell will loan one to you. They offered to send me their Hydraulic Pump setup for the rear steering as a loaner. They must think Newell owners are responsible!

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the help! I was able to get a rental from Newell after explaining I couldn't make the drive to them for the repair. The pricing was pretty good as well.

I will definitely keep those two sources in mind for the future. Not sure why my Google search did not come up with site (Thanks to Articdude!). I also have not heard of the site either. Seems braking will now be in my future!

When using a castellated nut tool, especially with a lot of torque on the wrench, you need to make sure that you are properly piloted on the nut or it can slip off and damage the castellations (nubs).  

I could not tell by looking at the tool picture if it had a piloting feature.

I have not tried it but I would think a hose type clamp would work if you can grab both the nut and tool OD.  If you have room, I would add that to your procedure.
