Sealing belly-basement-stowage doors - dbld58 - 07-27-2022

Anyone have suggestions on the best way to seal the belly/basement doors?  

A few of mine let some water into the basement.  Some of the original seals are not completely adhered to the doors anymore, so they obviously need attention.  Since mine is a 2004, I was thinking of trying something like this (not sure what thickness to get):

I would start by replying the existing rubber gasket with contact cement.

Also if the water ingress was under the slide outs, you have to ensure the coach skin has not broken loose to provide a water path.

I am also thinking some of the latches need adjusting.  I know I need to replace at least one gas strut too.  I really want to make the whole coach operate as new or better.

So……read the threads on rivet issues first.

When the coach flexes it can break the aluminum skin loose from the frame surrounding the slide out. IF it breaks the skin loose, water will seep between the skin and the frame, and make it’s way to the basement. My point was don’t assume it’s coming from the door seal.

Do you have to remove the slide to inspect and repair this?  I want to make sure I leave no stone unturned.

No.

With the slide in, take a closeup picture of the head high trim piece aft of the salon slide. Post it. The other picture you posted was way too far away to see if the skins had shifted.

Let’s see if this is the problem first.

Wow - I am envious of your trip. unfortunately, you're not visiting the Northeast where I am located.

I live in PA and the coach is in RI because that is where I used to work. I just resigned from where I was working. It's parked at a nice place on the water so I'll leave it there for now and visit it with my wife before bringing it home. Once home I'll complete the work that needs to be done. I am trying to educate myself as much as possible so I know I am doing things the right way (meaning: anyone who needs to work on the coach after me can stick to standard operating procedures).
