radiator fan speeds -
Deper10 - 05-06-2022
Just wanting to ask if when in hot climate and mainly when climbing steep grades, my temp gauge will start rising up to 210 or more. I still have the original gauges which I have been told are not that accurate and have checked the temps at the engine with a thermal gun and it shows temps closer to 200 when hot. I don't know if the fan is kicking into high speed but replaced the solenoid a couple of years ago and when its disconnected the fan instantly goes to high speed. My question is, if I leave the solenoid disconnected while driving in these conditions, to keep temps down, will it cause any harm to the system.
Thanks

No harm but your mileage will suffer. Why not get a VMSPc or bluefire to see what the temp really is?

those gauges are horribly non linear. the high speed fan comes on at 204 on mine and the temp just shoots down after that even after or during a steep grade. when the fan is on high, it makes a lot of noise in the bedroom. you can tell when it is on for sure.
i have only gotten up to 208 or so after an incredibly long steep grade. and i only remember that one time and i do mountains in the west whenever we are out.

Thanks for the feedback and I am looking into the Bluefire. I believe I am getting false numbers and will try to have my wife listen for the fan while we are under way, good advice. How is your trip going Richard? We will be heading out on the 17th.
