What tire pressures? - folivier - 03-17-2013

On my 45' 2 slide I have Michelin xza2 315/80R22.5 LR-L and on the drive and tag axles BF Goodrich ST230 11R24.5 LR-H.
Not having had a chance to weight it yet what tire pressures should I run?

I use 130 in the front(Newell's recommendation) & 105 in both the drives and tags. Rears are based on weight.

Steve are you running 315's or 365's?

I have the same Michelin tire sizes on my coach as you have on yours--frt & rear. With 365s You can drop the pressure to either 120 or 125(I forget which) by Newell's recommendation. My coach has the large wheel studs that require $2,000 worth of machining for the 365 conversion. After looking at my coach weights(individual wheel weights taken at Newell) and looking at the 315 tire specs, I'm comfortable with the 315s.

Forest, you may want to check to see if your front studs are large or small. If small, you can put on 365 tires and new wheels without machining the wheel. If you stay with the 315 in the front, you will need to carry 130 lbs. and I understand that Newell recommends that you keep your speed under 65. My front axle weighs 18,110 lbs. fully loaded, and with the 365s I carry 110, and 100 in all of the rear tires. This gives a margin of safety and a smoother ride, I hope.

Chester, I am doing the same as you. I have 365s on front and 315s on rear.

I considered putting 365s on the tag...but then someone said that they would scrub more when I turned...so I have decided to table that idea until next tire change.

Chester is correct. Newell recommends a maximum cruising speed of 65 mph for the 315 and 75 for the 365's. The load rating for the 315's at 130 psi is 9080 per tire vs 10,500 at 125 psi on the 365's.
