Suburban propane heater - whatsnewell - 02-19-2016

A few months ago the Suburban propane heater in the salon of my 1982 Newell began to fail.....the burner would light, but not stay lit which meant it was either a bad flame sensor, or a bad control board.  In my heart of hearts I was pretty sure it was the control board, but hoped it was just the ignitor/flame sensor module, which is pretty easy to replace.  Since I had pulled out the old one to take a look at it and it looked just like you would expect a 34 year old one would look, I decided to replace it whether, or not it was bad hoping that it would fix the problem.  Well, of course, that was not the case, so I ordered a replacement control board from Dinosaur (UIB-L) Board.  I did not buy it from Dinosaur, but off eBay (click link for the eBay page for this item) for $78.50 shipped.  I think Dinosaur's price is close to, or over $100.  Below a picture of the new board, the old board, and the viewing glass.....she stays lit!

I only use my gas heaters when dry camping/boondocking, and it wasn't that cold when we were out in the desert for 5 weeks, so I didn't rush to fix it, and I believed it would be a multi hour project trying to get that heater out.  As it turned out it was not that difficult.  Only two screws hold the heater in its box.....one inside and one outside where the vent is.  All you do is remove those two screws, disconnect the gas line and slide the heater out.....easy peezy!  I'm so glad I have the owners manuals for those heaters!

Hey, for an electronic component to last 34 years...that's awesome. Hope the replacement board lasts another 34 years or more!

Jon, I'm pretty sure it will outlasts me!
