Dreaming of fulltiming in a Newell - RxPC - 12-02-2014

Hi everyone! This looks like a great place to be if you have, or want to have, a Newell. My husband and I are in the early stages of planning for our retirement and full time RV'ing is on the short list. Well, it's really the only thing on my list, but I still haven't completely convinced him. I started out thinking small, but over the course of several months of research including lurking on this board and LCL, I have decided that a used Newell is my first choice. I hope to start out by snowbirding by myself for a couple of seasons, then go to full time when my husband is ready to retire. We live in southern New Jersey - not the greatest place to be if you are shopping for a luxury RV. I've never actually been in a Newell or a Prevost and I don't think they will be represented at the NJ show in Edison next month. I was hoping that a sympathetic owner on this board who lives nearby might be willing to give us a tour of their coach. We are not planning to buy in the immediate future. Probably not until my son graduates college in 18. But I'm a compulsive planner and so I'm beginning my research now.
I'm hoping by 2018 my dream coach will be within reach financially. Happy Trails,
Patty
Also Ricky (my skeptical husband), and Molly (our golden retriever).

Patty,
The best place to tour Newells is at the factory in Miami, OK. Plan a fun getaway to Miami. They will treat you with open arms at the factory and NO SALES PRESSURE. You can compare many different year coaches at your leisure. Take the factory tour and see how they are and have been built for over 40 years. You could easily spend a few days. Prior to owning a Newell the wife & I went to the factory several times on fun getaways. Well worth our time.

Welcome to the forum & good luck in your search

Come to Indio for a "Snowbirds Paradise" to the Motorcoach Country Club where Newells and Marathon Prevosts are in no short supply to see as well as both manufacturers have sites and display coaches for sale. There are over 40 Newells of every age here and the same applies to Prevosts. By "18" Our coach may be looking for a new owner and ours is like new today.

Besides the factory, there is also Motorhomes of Texas in Naggadosious (I know I killed it)and California Coach in Costa Mesa who both carry a large inventory of used Newells...

Larry,

You are like myself when it comes to MOT's location. I finally got it right by breaking down to the syllables -- Na cog doches.

Next time I start a town in Texas, I am going to name it Naggodosious in your honor. Hope you will be available to attend the founding ceremony.

Patty, all the best in your research.

Thank you all for the great suggestions. I don't currently own a motorhome, so I think the rallies and the Indio Country Club at Palm Springs are not really an option. I've checked into renting a luxury RV for even a short period of time and the rentals are outrageously priced. When I consider the cost of a luxury RV and the maintenance required when renting, I think the costs are justifiable, just a little out of my reach. I do like the idea of visiting the production facilities in Miami, OK. I absolutely love manufacturing plant tours of any kind and this would be a special treat. (My dad is a manufacturing engineer and I grew up touring every type of plant imaginable). Could anyone tell me about the process of arranging for a visit and tour at Newell? I don't see anything on their website about it. Is there anything else to do in the area if we wanted to make a vacation out of the visit?
Thanks,
Patty

Ibrachfe (Larry or Hedy),
If I were to come out to So Cal, would they allow someone not staying at the resort to come onsite to view the manufacturers' display coaches? I have plenty of family out there and it could be a tag-on to a family visit to take a stop at the Indio resort. Unfortunately, I would have a really hard time convincing my husband to go on a shopping trip to Nagadoches or Costa Mesa. I can't even get him to go with me to Costco. (We've owned 4 houses since we were married and he only got involved after I had done all the preliminary work each time. I expect this to work much the same way. The difference is that I really need his mechanical know-how in this purchase.)

Your coach would probably be exactly what I would be looking for around '18. I was thinking anywhere from '03 to '05 depending on the options and the number of slides. I feel like if I want a great Newell, it's going to be important to stay connected to the community of owners. When I look on Rv Trader, there is only 1 Newell for every 4 Prevosts listed. I am also keeping an open mind about Prevost and also Blue Bird Wanderlodge. But I want to be able to use it right away without having to invest 10s of thousands to get it ready to travel. I should mention that one of the main reasons we are considering the RV lifestyle is that my husband is a skier and I don't mind the snow, but want to travel to other places as well. We need a coach that can handle the extremes of temperature and elevation, haul a 4x4 and a ski-tuning room (trailer), and give us enough living space whether we are in Florida in the early winter, or in Lake Tahoe in February. You can spread out in Florida, but we'd be confined to the coach in Tahoe. This is my husband's chance to be the ski bum he always wanted to be and will satisfy my wanderlust at the same time.
Thanks again,
Patty

Patty, Ricky

There is not much in the imeadiate area of the factory however a few hours from there there is lots of things to do on a vacation. St. Louis is 5.5 hrs away Dalas I believe is similar. If you are looking for things to do you will get plenty of suggestions here. I am on eastern Long Island NY would be glad to show you our coach once it comes home from a rough winter in Fl storage. . I am sure there are lots of folks much closer to you however.

There is a large used Prevost show in Tampa the day before the big RV show down there. Newell and several Prevost converters are always there. It's a great show to go to, it takes a couple of days to see it. There were also a coup,e of folk that showed up at the Newell Rally in Me to look at the coaches Newell had there. You could get on there email news letter and see when and where they are.

Getting a tour of the factory is pretty simple just call them let them know when you would like to see the plant and the coaches they will have someone meet you. Good luck in your hunt.

If you go to Miami, try to tour the Coleman Theater in town. It is definitely worth the time if you like historical stuff & restorations. There are some casinos in the area also. With some luck you might win the price of a Newell.

RE: Dreaming of fulltiming in a Newell - Yachts - 12-02-2014

If you go to Newell I encourage you to walk the shop and meet owners. You will meet people and get real people experience.. Welcome to our site
