Year and coach numbers -
Yachts - 02-07-2014
Has anyone put together a list of coach numbers and the year break for those? It would be interesting to see what coach number tied to what years and any major advancements on any specific coach.. Ie.. First coach with slides or double slide or triple, quad, Steerable tag, valid slides.. Would be a very informative to all of us I think....
I know 422 was a no slide 96
507,512 were 99's
I've seen 671 as an 04 and 708 also, so 04 had at least 38 coaches sold.

Yes and no.. I have the one I want just trying to arrange financing.. Unfortunately I'm the only Newell owner whose net worth begins with a minus sign.... I may have it worked out ,if not I'll just need to buy a less expensive coach..but hey looking and dealing is FUN! Dropping 512 off at the factory Sunday for the new owner.. Gonna miss her.. Had some great times in her.

Marc, I can give you an idea of the approximate (occasionally exact) model year change over coach number. Prior to 1990, coach numbers were not included in the VIN so information is harder to come by and the current coach numbering system didn't begin until 1983.
1983 models ~ 1 through 23? Known 1983 models include coach 7
1984 models ~ 24 through 60?
1985 models ~ 61 through 82?
1986 models ~ 83 through 123 to 125? Confirmed coach # for 1986 models include 86, 89, 113 and 121.
1987 models ~ 124 to 126 through 157 to 159? Confirmed coach # for 1987 models include 129, 132, 135, 139, and 146.
1988 models ~ 158-160 through 181? Confirmed coach # for 1988 models include 166, 179 and 180.
1989 models ~ 182 through 212? Confirmed coach # for 1989 models include 184, 201 and 204.
1990 models include 213 through 246 (213 was first model 2000 and the first Newell where the coach number was included in the VIN)
1991 models began with 247 through 280, then 282, 285 and 286, the last 1991
1992 models began with 281, 283 and 284, then 287 through 308, then 310 through 311
1993 models began with 309, then 312 through 338.
1994's were 339 through 371
1995's include 372 -396 and 398 - 401
1996's include 397, then 402 through 437
1997's were 438 through 465
1998's were 466 through 502
1999's include 503 through 538
2000's include 539 through 571
2001's include 572 through 607
2002's began with 608 and went through 639
2003's began with 640 - 670 (except 666 which was skipped) then 672 - 678.
2004's 671 (the first Newell with the ZF suspension) and then 679 through 716.
2005's began with 717 and went through 752. (
722 was first 2000i)
2006's began with 753 and went through 786. (
776 was first P2000i)
2007's included 787 through 816 and 1200 through 1214 (numbers 817-1199 inclusive skipped to account for coaches built prior to the coach numbering system implemented in 1983).
2008's were 1215 through 1250.
2009's included 1251 through 1290.
2010's were 1291 - 1299 and 1400 - 1408, (
1300-1399 were skipped by Newell).
2011's included 1409 through 1430.
2012's were 1431 through 1453.
2013's included 1454 - 1474. (
1466 was likely the first 2020P)
2014's were 1475 through 1498.
2015's were 1499 through 1526.
2016's were 1527 through 1554.
2017's 1555-1565 (skipped 1566-1599 for testing/certification) and 1600-1614. (
1600 was the first p50)
2018's 1615-1636
2019's 1637-1664
2020's 1665-1694
2021's 1695-1714
2022's 1715-1742
2023's 1743-1773
2024's 1774-1798
2025's 1799-
If anyone has confirmation of the year model of a coach number that is in the transition models above, please let me know so I can continue to refine and improve my records.
Updated as of 4/13/2014, 10/6/2014, 1/7/15, 6/10/16, 4/23/17 and 10/20/20 based on additional VIN's.

Wow that's awesome! Thank you looks like 2004 was the year of many coaches with close to 40 made that year.. I think that was also the year of the first valid slides and steerable tag.. I know 701 has both and I know some 2004s don't .. Also was that the last year of the detroits before they put new emission standards in?
Also unrelated subject, many 2006 and later have 15 kW gensets while many 96-2005 have 20kw.. Anyone know why less kW gensets are used now.. I'm thinking roof airs are less of an energy drain than basement airs?

You are welcome.
2004 model year (calendar year 2003) was a good year for Newell. Although model year 2007 was a record breaking 44 coaches. Valid slides were introduced during the 2003 model year with coach 645 and then all coaches after 649 having Valid slides. 671 (designated a 2004 model) was the first Newell with the steerable tag and was thoroughly tested out by Karl Blade and the Newell staff for months prior to beginning general implementation. You are correct that a number of Newells were built particularly in 2007 and 2008 with a front mounted 15KW generator. Many of those built with a 20KW generator, were built with the generator mounted in a driver's side bay further back. By the 2009 model year, 20KW nose mounted generators again returned to predominance.

Here are some interesting milestones that I have recorded. These are the closest I have been able to document.
First AquaHot was around coach #353, a 1994
First bath & 1/2 floorplan was around coach #423, a 1996
First single slide was around coach #436, a 1996
First 2 slide coach was around coach #462, a 1997
First coach with the 2000 model "smiley face" nose was on the last 1999 model built, coach #538
First 46' coach was around coach #596, a 2001 model
Coach #606 was about the first coach built with the front entry door and 46'8" long. It was a 2001 model
Coach #653 may have been the first coach with the CAT C-12 engine. It was a 2003 model.
As Michael said Coach #671 was interesting. Built in 2003 with the first steerable tag and ZF suspension. It was given to Karl Blade to test the new features. It was first registered and sold as a 2004 model so its number is out of order.

EGR valves? Is that the emission stuff?
I was also told there are 3" red" series 60 coaches and 2 " black" series 60 coaches.. The black ones are special ordered and 512 was one of them.. The "red" ones were put in 3 Penske coaches, the captains coach , rusty Wallace coach , and Jeremy mayfield, they were goosed to 550 hp..
